The Animation Pipeline
The first thing that happens is the STORY. Something has to happen or it was just be this static panorama, which would eventually be boring. So, you have to have characters of some type, and they have to have a REASON to go from here to there, either to move across the screen or to have an adventure.
In some games, like Chess or Monopoly, the developer’s focus is not an on-screen character. Instead, you are concentrating on the game player. The game player has to read the High Concept off the box, and find the objectives of the game.
So, someone has to come up with that story and figure out what it means to move the character or let the game player move the character. The story itself requires some items for the game to be interesting. They are:
